Do You Write?
FineLine Press is interested in receiving stories that are well written in a lyrical style telling a good story. Preferably they will be personal in story form with a strong travel flavour and from experiences in other countries, in particular at this stage, Japan.
The guidelines for the Japan stories (see Tales of Gaijin under "Down the Line") were:
- Personal experience / feelings
- Images - clear and concrete - of Tokyo and/or Japan
- Lyrical (the prose should have beauty if not poetic quality)
- Light (story ideally shows a light side of life in Japan with serious comment on this ...... or vice versa)
- Observation (a clear event described or some thoughts about Tokyo/Japan - contrast/comparison with other places OK)
- Tokyo-based atmosphere preferred / Japan fine, too
- Short (not more than 2,000 words, or two or three very short "stories" adding up to that). There can be exceptions but 5,000 words would be a take-over!
FineLine Press is always interested in stories following the guidelines above because after the phenomenal success of the first volume there could well be another collection of Japan stories.
